WEEKLY VIDEO: Automotive Color [GM, DuPont]
COVER STORY - Automotive Canada: Gearing Up or Gearing Down?

There is little doubt that as the Canadian automotive market is dealing with complex political and economic issues such as a ballistic Canadian dollar, a weakening US economy or manufacturing contraction and skyrocketing oil prices, accurate foresting is fast becoming a tall order for most players within this industry. As the usual keyhole view of one particular automotive segment is not cutting it anymore, it should be no surprise that the last week's annual industry ritual otherwise known as the Automotive Market and Forecasting Briefing by J.D. Power and Associates Canada, was an eagerly anticipated event.

As one can expect, divergent opinions are thick on the ground about what's worrying us these days - anything from the direction of the economy or sales volumes to brand performance. Recognizing industry's tension and subsequent high demand for accurate data and expert analysis, to their credit, J.D. Power, brought out their big guns to this event: Dr. Robert Schnorbus, Chief economist and director of Macroeconomic Analysis discussed the economic issues, Jeff Schuster, Executive Director -Global forecasting, who tackled the outlook for the Canadian automotive market, while Tom Libby, Senior Director, Industry Analysis and Media relations, Power Information network (PIN) delved into the current market trends in the Canadian new vehicle industry.
