WEEKLY VIDEO: Automotive recycling - PartII
The Age of Scarcity

by Michael Pistol

"Canadian motorists should brace for $1.40 litre gas this summer and over $2.25 in 2012: CIBC World Markets." When it comes to getting businesses' attention, there is nothing like a great headline - and Jeff Rubin, the Chief Strategist and Chief Economist at CIBC World Markets knows that too well.
The thing is, you don't really need shocking headlines to see that the usual Canadian automotive business model is starting - slowly but surely, to change radically. And once again, the price of fuel is behind this implacable move.

The Basics
The latest CIBC report - The Age of Scarcity, says that "...Increasingly tight oil supplies will continue to push the price of oil higher with the cost of crude hitting US$150 a barrel by 2010 and soaring to US$225 a barrel by 2012. This will result in skyrocketing consumer gas prices in Canada with the national average price topping $1.40 this summer, $1.80 in the summer of 2010 and $2.25 by 2012."
